Night in Calisia was released in November 2012. The music composed by Włodek Pawlik was a contribution to the celebration of the 1850th anniversary of Kalisz, the oldest town in Poland. The culmination of the anniversary’s gala was a premiere concert Night in Calisia, performed on 19 June, 2010.
Włodek Pawlik for Jazz Forum about Night in Calisia:
Here I played with the form, inventing completely abstract and surreal associations that are reflected in the title of each part. However, they are all referring to the migrations of the merchants along the ancient Amber Route, where according to the Books of Romans Calisia settlement was laid.
The American edition of the record was listed on Top 50 Radio Chart by American Jazz radio stations.
On 26 January 2014 Night in Calisia won the Grammy Award for the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. It is the first ever Grammy Award for a Polish jazz record.
