Prof. Irene Sarosiek
Texas Tech University, USAIrene Sarosiek, M.D., AGAF, FACG, CCRP is a Tenured Professor of Medicine and the Director of GI Motility Neurostimulation Research at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in El Paso, Texas.
Dr. Sarosiek graduated from the Medical University of Bialystok in Poland. She is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association, as well as a member of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, Association of Clinical Research Professionals, and Society of Clinical Research Associates. She is also a TTUHSC Founding Member of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health, Scientific Advisory Committee and the Founding Chair of the Mentoring Committee of Women in Medicine and Science organization at TTUHSC, El Paso.
Dr. Sarosiek has been recognized and has received a number of honors including: American College of Gastroenterology Governor’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Research 1997 and 2000, ranked as Top Ten Research Faculty at Kansas University Medical Center (KUMC) in 2002, Recognition of Outstanding Accomplishments in Management of Gastroparesis at KUMC 2002, Recognition of Excellence with Enterra Therapy- 10 Years’ Experience 2008, Dean’s Excellence in Research Award- TTUHSC 2012, Outstanding Research Mentor Award 2013, Alvarez Award IGES/DDW 2014, Inspirational Women of the Year Award 2017, and 2018 Tensely Harrison Award for the best manuscript published in The American Journal of Medical Sciences in 2017.
As an expert in Neurogastroenterology and GI Motility, Dr. Sarosiek has over 20 years of experience in designing, developing and conducting federal, investigator initiated trials, industry funded multicenter, national and international, randomized clinical trials. Leading GI Motility research team, Dr. Sarosiek established motivated, successful and reputable Center of the NIH/NIDDK Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium (GpCRC) in El Paso, TX.
The research interests of Dr. Irene Sarosiek revolve around upper GI motility disorders including gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia, cyclic vomiting syndrome and lower GI truck complications. The main focus of her research carrier is therapy through implementation of gastrointestinal neurostimulation provided by implantable electrical stimulation systems, as well as pacemakers, transcutaneous, needleless electrical acupuncture, therapeutic use of neuromodulation, and new generation of the diagnostic procedures including Dynamic Scintigraphy, and the wireless motility SmartPill capsule technology. Dr. Sarosiek has over 400 research publications, including book chapters, articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and abstracts. She has presented the results of original and collaborative research at more than 130 international and national meetings and conferences, and she has been invited as a speaker and faculty at the scientific meetings and medical symposia. She also is serving as the reviewer for SPARC Section of NIH program and frequent reviewer of different medical and biological journals. Her research has been funded by the NIH/NIDDK, NIH/DCC, and NIH Small Business support, American College of Gastroenterology, American Diabetes Association, and Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health.
