Prof. Jan Václavík

Dr. Jan Václavík, MD, PhD, FESC, FEFIM is a Professor of Medicine, Head of Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University Hospital Ostrava, Czech Republic, and Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava. He is a specialist in cardiology and internal medine. He has special interests in arterial hypertension, multimorbidity and cardiovascular pharmacotherapy.
He initially undertook clinical sessions at Internal Medicine Deparment at Sternberk Hospital and subsequently at Department of Internal Medicine I – Cardiology at University Hospital Olomouc and Palacký University, Olomouc, Czech Republic. He is a member of several Czech and international societies in the fields of cardiology, internal medicine and hypertension. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and European Federation of Internal Medicine, member of European Society of Hypertension and member of the Committee of the Czech Society of Internal Medicine and Czech Society of Hypertension.
Professor Vaclavik’s main research field is arterial hypertension, mainly resistant and secondary hypertension. Further research areas involve multimorbidity, polypharmacotherapy, treatment adherence, heart failure, antiplatelet therapy and novel laboratory diagnostic methods. He has authored or co-authored over 115 academic papers published in national and international journals.
In 2004 he was awarded Discovery Award prize of the Czech Republic for extraordinary advance in biomedical research.
