Prof. Alexandra Papaioannou

Dr. Papaioannou is a Professor, Department of Medicine, McMaster University and a Geriatrician at Hamilton Health Sciences. She is Executive Director of the GERAS Centre, and holds a CIHR-Eli Lilly Research Chair. She has joint appointment in the Division of Rheumatology. Dr Papaioannou is Associate Member in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact. She is a faculty member in Medical Sciences, Physiology & Pharmacology Graduate Studies Program. She is a member of the Gilbrea Centre Advisory Board. She is past chair of the Scientific Advisory Council of Osteoporosis Canada and the past Chair of the Board. She is a member of the Scientific Advisors of Osteoporosis Canada and International Osteoporosis Foundation. She was lead author of the Osteoporosis Canada Guidelines published in Canadian Medical Association Journal (October 2010). Dr. Papaioannou has authored over 300 peer reviewed publications. She co-chaired the 2010 Osteoporosis Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines (CMAJ 2010) and led the 2015 Long-Term Care Recommendations on Fracture Prevention for Frail Seniors. She holds a number of CIHR grants with a focus on knowledge translation in the community and long-term care.
