Prof. Guenther Jonitz

Dr. Guenther Jonitz, born 1958, surgeon by origin is Honorary Professor at the Danube Private University, Krems, Austria, and was President of the Berlin Chamber of Physicians and member of the board of the German Medical Association from 1999 to 2021.

He pioneered and promoted evidence-based medicine, quality management in health care, patient safety and value-based health care in Germany. He is e. g. a founding member of the German Network für Evidence-based Medicine, the German Coalition for Patient Safety, the Guidelines International Network, several organisations for quality management and the Berlin-Brandenburg Registry für Myocardial Infarction.

As technical advisor to the German Ministry of Health on Patient Safety International he joined the Ministerial Summits on Patient Safety since 2016 and gave lectures on patient safety and value-based health care in 9 countries in Europe, the Middle East and India.

He is convinced that we need more input from physicians to create better health care systems based on medical values.

He is living in Potsdam next to Berlin, with his wife Britta, specialist in internal medicine and psychotherapy.
