Dr Matthew Clifford Rashotte, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at McMaster University, describes the spectrum of group A streptococcal disease, with a particular focus on invasive group A streptococcal (iGAS) disease; reviews the approach to the management of iGAS, including antimicrobial management and adjunctive measures; explains the changing epidemiology of iGAS both locally and globally and highlights potential factors driving an increase in cases; and describes iGAS prevention measures, including infection control considerations, contact management, and the status of vaccine research. The webinar chaired by Dr Khalid Azzam was recorded at the Chair’s Medical Grand Rounds on April 4, 2024.
