Prof. Ally Prebtani

Dr. Ally P. H. Prebtani is an Internist and Endocrinologist at McMaster University and Full Professor of Medicine.

He is the founder and director of the Global Health Program and the founder and past program director of the Endocrinology & Metabolism Residency Training Program. He is also current Consultant and past Deputy, Global Health Partnerships, Aga Khan Health Services, Aga Khan Health Board for Canada.

He is actively involved in teaching, advocacy work, clinical work, research, and administration, many of these on a voluntary basis locally and globally. He has also been actively involved in COVID-19 work at several levels.

Dr. Prebtani is currently on the Cancer Care Ontario Thyroid Ultrasound Reporting Group, Expert Committee, Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines, and Chair of the Endocrine Hypertension Subgroup, Clinical Practice Guidelines, Hypertension Canada. He is also a member of the RCPSC Endocrine Exam Development and Examination Board. He is also a consultant for the South Asian Diabetes Chapter for Diabetes Canada.

Dr. Prebtani has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in addition to several poster and oral presentations globally at scientific conferences. He has also been a co-investigator in several clinical trials. He has also been a grant reviewer for research applications.

He has received the Makerere College of Health Sciences, Appreciation Award for Postgraduate Medical Training in Uganda, the Canadian Society of Endocrinology & Metabolism Dr. Harvey Guyda Educator of the Year Award, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada M. Andrew Padmos International Collaboration Award, Ontario Voluntary Service Award, the Medical Humanitarian Service Award, the McMaster Global Impact Award, the OMA Presidential Award, the Outstanding Health Care Professional Award by Diabetes Canada, the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario Teaching Award, the Medical Consultant award, and several other teaching awards from the university and in the community.

His personal interests include spending time with his family, camping, traveling, dancing, DJ’ng and music. His mentor being his late father Pyarali Prebtani.
