↑ Decreased activity of enzymes participating in homocysteine metabolism (mutations of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase and cystathionine beta synthase), deficiency of cofactors of folic acid and vitamin B6 or B12, folic acid antagonists (eg, methotrexate), renal failure, hypothyroidism, chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases
