What disinfectants should be used to prepare ulcer dressings in patients with diabetic foot syndrome?
Andrew Boulton:
I do not know what a disinfectant is and they should not be used. I think the most important thing… I am always asked, “What should you put on a diabetic foot ulcer?” I say, what is more important is what you take off. You should debride the wound, remove all the dead and infected tissue, callus, and take pressure off the wound by putting them in a cast. Just ordinary sterile saline can be used to prepare the wound after debridement.
