Can biologic treatment be restarted in a patient who developed tuberculosis (TB) while on anti–tumor necrosis factor (TNF) treatment? Can we use anti-TNF agents again in such patients?
Gülen Hatemi, MD:
In our experience that is possible. We had only 1 patient who had a recurrence of TB after anti-TNFs were started.
Another concern is being infected with TB again. In patients who have a past history of TB there is always a risk of TB, because people around them may have TB. These patients should be carefully followed-up.
