Can diabetes cause hearing impairment? Should patients with diabetes be screened for hearing loss?

René Rodríguez-Gutiérrez, MD: The answer is no. There is some weak association that stems from low-quality evidence, but the reality is that we do not have strong evidence that there is actually an association or even causality.

So the answer is no, and therefore I think these patients should not be screened for hearing impairment because they have diabetes per se.
