What is the recommended medical treatment in patients with Barrett esophagus?
Janusz Jankowski, MD, PhD:
The recommended treatment we probably will see is a continuous dose of at least a moderately effective proton pump inhibitor.
Up until now people have said to just treat the symptoms, but we think the proton pump inhibitors are probably effective in helping to dampen down the inflammation, and therefore stopping genetic damage.
