Are topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs effective in the treatment of gout?
George Nuki: I have no experience with that. Gout inflammation is so intense that I cannot think that it would have a major effect. It does have some real effect and it has some placebo effect. But I think gout is perhaps the one condition where one is not looking first of all to use topical agents. In osteoarthritis it can be very effective, safer perhaps than oral ones, but I would downplay that a little bit in patients with gout.
