Does insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes always increase the risk of weight gain? Can weight gain be prevented?

René Rodríguez-Gutiérrez, MD: That is also a great question. I think insulin per se increases weight gain, but there is no doubt that when you put someone on insulin and he or she also makes good lifestyle interventions, for example, follows a good diet and exercises, they can even lose weight.
