Chapters on imaging in COVID-19

Two new chapters discussing the use of diagnostic imaging in the care for patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are now part of the online edition and mobile apps of the McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine.

Clinicians caring for patients with COVID-19 rely on different diagnostic modalities to inform their diagnosis and management. Imaging studies, including radiography, computed tomography, and ultrasonography, have gained recognition as highly valuable tools. Each study has its own characteristics, including the level of accessibility, turnaround time, ease of use, portability, and risk of contamination.

The chapters in the McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine offer a concise overview of the key imaging techniques used in the management of COVID-19 and associated complications. Developed under the supervision of Dr Julian Dobranowski, chair of the Department of Radiology at McMaster University and section editor for Diagnostic Imaging, they highlight the practical application of imaging studies in the setting of the current pandemic.
