McMaster ranked one of world’s top 60 universities for life sciences and medicine

McMaster is one of the world’s best universities at which to study life sciences and medicine, ranking 59th internationally, according to the most recent QS World University Rankings by subject.

Six areas of study at McMaster ranked among the Top 100 globally, with nursing placing 30th, sports-related subjects 33rd and medicine 41st in the world.

“I am pleased to see the excellence of McMaster’s Faculty of Health Sciences reflected in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject,” says Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “It’s especially exciting to see the university recognized amongst our international peers in the subjects of nursing and medicine.”

The rankings place McMaster’s life sciences and medicine programs fourth among Canadian universities.

Other McMaster subject areas in the top 150 globally include: English language & literature, theology, divinity & religious studies, pharmacy & pharmacology, chemical engineering, electrical & electronic engineering, materials sciences, and statistics & operational research.

Recently, McMaster earned a spot among the world’s top 150 universities by academic reputation in the Times Higher Education’s 2025 World Reputation Rankings.
