Dr Paul O’Byrne, MB, is a distinguished university professor of medicine and dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, Canada, acknowledged globally for his research on the mechanisms and treatment of asthma, particularly the role of environmental allergens and allergen-induced airway inflammation. Author of numerous publications, including over 500 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals, such as NEJM, The Lancet, and Nature Medicine. Past chair of the Science Committee of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). Editor in chief of the McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine.
