AI in medicine: Today and the future

Dan Perri, MD, is an associate professor of medicine in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University, Canada, with clinical and research activities in the Divisions of General Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology. As a Chief Medical Information Officer at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, he seeks to optimize patient care, particularly prescribing safety, through the innovative use of digital technologies. Taking advantage of the ongoing digital transformation of health care, he uses the opportunity to implement and evaluate eHealth, mobile health, virtual care, big data analytics, and machine-learning strategies to improve both the patient experience and health care provider effectiveness.
